Spreading the Gospel in Hard-to-Reach Countries
In October 2024, Faith Fact Check was profoundly blessed with the opportunity to evangelize throughout Cuba alongside Rachel Sanchez-Parodi and Oscar Serrania of Aliento Cuba and Pastor Yaisel Lima. This mission provided an extraordinary platform to share the Gospel and apologetics (answering the tough questions about beliefs) in under-evangelized regions, where spiritual hunger and cultural challenges intersect.
Scott and his wife were thrilled to return to Cuba, a country they hold dearly in their hearts. Their love for the Cuban people began during a previous visit as tourists, where they were deeply moved by the warmth and resilience of its people. Searching for ways to continue supporting ministries in Cuba, they initially struggled to find Christian outreach organizations operating in the country. Then, in what could only be described as divine orchestration, their close friends Adrienne and Dwight Shimoda from Calvary Chapel Monterey reached out unexpectedly. They shared how their church was supporting ministry work in Cuba and sent a video link. Watching the video, they were captivated by the charisma and love of Pastor Yaisel Lima, whose passion for spreading the Gospel resonated deeply. Through further research, they discovered Aliento Cuba—an organization that works tirelessly and is committed to evangelism and support throughout the country. This connection eventually led to Faith Fact Check being invited by Aliento Cuba to return and join the mission.
During this visit, Scott served as a keynote speaker at a conference just outside of Havana. The event brought together both youth and church leaders, inspiring attendees with messages of faith, hope, and the transformative power of the Gospel. Scott’s sessions and especially productive Q&A events focused on equipping participants with a deeper understanding of Christian apologetics, providing them with tools to confidently and effectively share the Good News in their communities. Beyond the conference, Scott also had the privilege of touring throughout the country to local churches, and to speak at the University of Havana, where he discussed the amazing answers available to the interesting questions surrounding beliefs.
Looking ahead, Faith Fact Check is eagerly preparing for their return to Cuba in 2025, and beyond, to build upon this impactful work. Partnering once again with Pastor Yaisel and Aliento Cuba, Scott will focus on speaking to a dedicated team of pastors and leaders interested in evidence supporting their beliefs, training and encouraging them to boldly and effectively evangelize throughout the nation. We are also hoping to schedule debates and discussions with secular professors. Meanwhile, his wife will assume a role teaching at the University of Havana. Her work will focus on educating prison ministry programs designed to bring the hope of the Gospel to incarcerated individuals across Cuba, which is an exciting new opportunity just opening in the country.
Cuba presents unique cultural and spiritual challenges, particularly in areas where practices like Santería have significant influence. Recognizing these challenges, Scott is deeply passionate about educating locals on its dangers and the importance of remaining rooted in biblical truth. Through compassionate and clear teaching, Scott aims to help Cuban believers embrace the freedom and transformative power found in Christ.
